Ben’s Botanicals is an online plant archive created by a horticulturist documenting a wide range of plant species and growing characteristics. This project involved designing and developing a structured WordPress website that allows users to browse plants by features, categories and botanical information.
The goal of the project was to create a website capable of organising a large number of plant records while allowing users to browse plants by specific characteristics. With a growing collection of plants, the site required a structured system to categorise and display information in a way that gardeners could easily explore.
The website also needed to allow new plants to be added regularly while maintaining a consistent structure for plant data and classifications.
The Brief
The goal of the project was to create a website capable of organising a large number of plant records while allowing users to browse plants by specific characteristics. With a growing collection of plants, the site required a structured system to categorise and display information in a way that gardeners could easily explore.
The website also needed to allow new plants to be added regularly while maintaining a consistent structure for plant data and classifications.
Scope of Project
Website Design, WordPress Development, Custom Content Structure, Taxonomy Architecture, Plant Database Structure, On Page SEO Optimisation
The website was designed and developed as part of a professional web design project focused on managing a growing archive of plant information. A structured layout was created to present plant entries clearly while allowing users to browse plants based on specific growing characteristics.
A custom content structure was developed to store detailed plant information including botanical names, growth conditions, sunlight requirements, soil preferences and plant characteristics. Each plant entry uses structured fields to maintain consistency across the growing database.
Taxonomy systems and category archives were created to allow visitors to browse plants by features such as drought tolerance, shade suitability, pollinator friendliness and other gardening attributes. This allows users to explore plants based on practical gardening needs rather than simply alphabetical listings.
Page structure, metadata and content hierarchy were also implemented as part of the website SEO strategy, helping plant entries and category pages perform well in search results for plant related queries.
The Result
The completed website provides a structured plant archive where visitors can explore a wide variety of plants and their growing characteristics.
The flexible content structure allows new plant entries to be added easily while maintaining consistent plant data and category organisation, making the site a useful reference resource for gardeners.
